September 2009

The Mid Michigan Derby Girls was founded in July 2008. The following month they were incorporated and became a non-profit organization in the state of Michigan. The Derby Girls took to the streets in local paradesand events to recruit and spread the word about their league and have recruited skaters from as far north as Midland and as far south as Waterford. The organization consists of girls in communities that stretch from Lapeer to Swartz Creek, truly representing Mid Michigan, not just a single community.

In September 2009, ZÜCA signed on as a product sponsor for the organization, supplying ZÜCA Sports to each team member and referee to usewhen hauling their equipment, skates, and uniforms back and forth.

The Cheetahs will be rolling their matching ZÜCA Sports to and from all games this season as a way to better carry their soccer gear and equipment. Each Cheetah has her name embroidered on the ZÜCA Sport insert so she can easily identify her ZÜCA.

ZÜCA is very proud to become a product sponsor for 7 year-old future champion figure skater, Gia Kokotakis!  To learn more about Gia and watch her amazing skating videos visit: Kokotakis

Gia's mom says it best when discussing how ZÜCA has benefitted Gia in her journey to stardom!

"Gia has been using a ZÜCA for 2 1/2 years now.  It is the greatest thing - always having some place to sit.  One of our rinks (Culver Ice Arena) is quite old with little locker room area and trust me, that seat has come in handy many, many times. Gia is using the hot pink frame with the doodle insert currently - it is fun for her to draw on - additionally, skaters leave each other notes on their ZÜCAs.  Imagine Gia's surprise to find a note on her ZÜCA from National Bronze Medalist and Team USA Member, Caroline Zhang, when she came off of the ice after practice!!!!!  Your product is so well built; I have used it as a step ladder in my home.  We have piled suitcases on top of it and used it as a dolly, too.  Gia has bounced it up and down concrete stairs at the Toyota Sports Center three times a week for years.  ZÜCA has really stood up to a major challenge with our family and Gia loves it!!!"

STS9 is a Santa Cruz, California-based, 5-piece electronic jam band fusing live instruments with "electronica". The band's genre-blending sound is based heavily on instrumental rock and electronic music crossed with elements of funk, jazz, drum and bass, psychedelia, and hip hop. Self-described as "post-rock dance music". The band mixes standard live rock instrumentation with electronics, favoring group rhythm over individual solos. They have release five studio albums on their own label and have achieved popularity among the San Francisco Bay Area, Denver, and the greater Atlanta

The band members have developed peaceblaster.com, an informational website where fans will find copies of the Bill of Rights, speeches by Dwight Eisenhower and Martin Luther King, and links to alternative media outlets. As with the live show, the site encourages independent thought. It's a space where people are free to stand up for the right to their own opinions, whatever they may be. The only agenda here is education.

As STS9 gears up for a return trip to Japan and a coast to coast tour this Fall ZÜCA is sponsoring STS9 by providing ZÜCA Pros and companion Business Backpacks for the band and crew members to travel and perform with. The guys are "fascinated by the uniqueness and functionality of ZÜCA's products, and love [using] the [ZÜCA Pros] on the road and on the stage." - Crawford Byers, Manager.

February 2010 – UPDATE

With the great success from our sponsorship with the Mid Michigan Derby Girls, ZÜCA proudly became a sponsor of our hometown team, the Silicon Valley Roller Girls! What made this sponsorship so cool was the fact that we were able to attend the home games, feature them in a ZÜCA Sport photoshoot, and have an information booth at the rink! We were so excited to meet the girls and their fans, and appreciate all they have done to help spread the word about ZÜCA in the roller derby community. Good luck, ladies!
